December is the time of year . . . that we seek to encourage those around us.

We give gifts, send cards, share what we have with those less fortunate and verbally declare our appreciation for others. Our Corron Community is known for its generosity toward others throughout the year whether it be Kicking for Cancer, donating to the Blood Drive, collecting DVDs and Tapes for Children’s Memorial, or collecting for UNICEF. We care about the physical and emotional SAFETY of those around us.

We are continuing this emphasis on Safety of Others during this month by collecting . .

  • Canned goods for the food pantry
  • Coats for the needy
  • Toiletries for Lazarus House

December is the time of year . . . that we seek to build our children’s self-esteem. We search for opportunities to show our children how much they mean to us and look for times to build them up. Unfortunately, many parents do this through purchasing the latest toy or showering their children with empty praise or “participation trophies.” How can we truly impact their confidence? How can we be sure that they will respect themselves enough to resist peer pressure and be less dependent upon the approval of others? Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

  • Spend some extended time just talking with your students about their interests and friends. Be an active listener: repeat back what you hear and ask questions. This will make them feel valued.
  • Review your students’ report cards with them. Look for areas of strength, discuss, and congratulate. Look for areas of weakness. Have your student identify one area they think they could improve upon and make some simple plans on how to do it.
  • Review our Corron RESPECT character traits with your child. Discuss what traits they most exemplify in their every day lives. Choose one trait to work on. Make a plan.
  • When our children show improvement or reach a goal, we definitely want to reflect with them on their success and the perseverance it took to reach the goal.
  • Don’t rescue our children . . . let them work through to accomplish a task or goal but be there to encourage.

Trusting you will have a special family time during our Winter Break when you can slow down to take time to talk and encourage your kids!
