The first step, deciding
what you want on your Web page.
Write down what you want on your Web page (e.g.
name, office number, phone number, e-mail link, syllabi, other pertinent papers
in Microsoft Word, helpful links, etc.).
Open up your Word documents that
you want to have as links to your Web page and convert them to html documents.
This can be done by going to “File.”
Go to “Save As.”
Keep your file name the same, but change the type
of document it will be by scrolling down to Web Page (*.htm, *html). You will have the document as both a Word and
HTML document. Note: Remember where you
are saving it.
Creating your own folder for your
Web page (yes, do that first):
Go to “Start.”
Go to “Programs.”
Go to “Macromedia.”
Go to “
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX.”
On the right had side of the
computer screen (about 2:00 if your computer screen were the face of a clock),
you will see a title that says “Site.” Click on it.
Scroll all the way to bottom
and click on “Import.”
Go to the Shared folder. To do that click on the down triangle next to
the white box before the words “Look in:”
Click on “Shared on
‘Nhs_lrc2/Vol1’(S:).
Dbl click on “global_web
Dbl click on
“NEW_SCN_GLOBAL” folder.
Dbl click on
“SCN_GLOBAL_FAC.ste”
Next to a folder and the words
“SCN_GLOBAL_FAC…” you will see a “+” sign.
Make it a “-“ by clicking on it
Scroll down just a bit to
“scnstaff” and click on it to open it up.
Make sure there is a blue line
through “scnstaff.” Then right click on
it.
Choose “New Folder.”
The name you give your folder
is your first initial of your first name and your last name (e.g. Darth Vader
would be dvader).
Cancel out after creating a
folder.
Using a template created for your
Web page:
Go to “File.”
Select “New.”
If it already hasn’t, click on
“Templates” to choose from a wide array of templates. Choose one of three (scn001fac,
scn001fac_rev1, scn001fac_rev2).
Choose the template that best
suits you (you can view different templates by clicking of the column entries
and observing the Preview screen.
Once you find the best
template to suit your needs,
click “Create.”
Placing your newly
converted Word documents in your new folder.
Go to “File.”
Go to “Import.”
Go to “Word HTML.”
Find your document and open it.
There will be a couple of boxes where you need to
click on “OK.”
Go to “File.”
Go to “Save As...”
Go to “Shared on Nhs_lrc2/vol1(SJ
Dbl click on
“global_web.”
Dbl click on
“NEW_SCN-GLOBAL.”
Open “scnstaff.”
Find your folder (e.g. dvader) and dbl click on
it).
Name your document and save it.
Linking to
Your Index Page
Highlight what you want as a link.
Below you will see a number of white boxes.
Look for “Link” and the white box.
Click on what looks like crosshairs and drag to your html document you want
linked to (in your folder).
Creating an
e-mail Link
Put your cursor where you want your e-mail link.
Go to Insert
Go to e-mail link.
Type in the text.
Type your e-mail.
Saving your Web page:
Go to “File.”
Go to “Save.”
Dbl click on
the “scnstaff” folder.
Dbl click on your folder (e.g.
Bill Clinton would click on the folder named bclinton).
Name your initial Web page
index.
Click “Save.”
How to get back to your folder (index page) to update
your Web page.
Go to “Start.”
Go to “Programs.”
Go to “Macromedia.”
