How to open Publisher:

Go to “Start.”

Go to “Programs.”

Go to “Microsoft Office.”

Go to “Microsoft Publisher.”

 

Choosing a Publisher document that suits your needs:

Note:  Publisher has numerous documents from which to choose: Publications by Wizard, Publications by Design, and Blank Publications

 

Blank Publications:

Choose “Blank Print Publication.”

 

Personalizing your Publisher document:

On the left hand side of screen the Quick Publications Wizard is open.  Personalize document by choosing its design, color scheme, layout, or adding personal information.

If the Quick Publications Wizard is not chosen, then create info from scratch using the toolbar displayed vertically on the left side of screen.

 

How to add pictures, WordArt, and textboxes to your Publisher document:

Pictures

Go to “File.”

Go to “Insert.”

Choose the picture you want (i.e. ClipArt, pics from your file, scanned pics, Internet, etc.)

Note: Cite pics from the Internet/scanned pics from print sources.

Note:  It is highly recommended that you save a picture to your space rather than copying and pasting it directly from the Internet.  This step will save you time when printing your document.

 

WordArt

Click on the tilted letter “A” in the drawing toolbar to your left.

Choose the style of WordArt by clicking on it.

Click “OK.”

Type the info you want as WordArt.

Click “OK.”

Click and drag where you want your WordArt.

 

Note: if the Formatting toolbar is not shown, go to “View,” scroll down to “Toolbars” and click on “Formatting.”

 

Textboxes:

In the Drawing toolbar on the left, click on the letter “A” encased in a miniature paper.

Choose where you want to textbox to go by placing your cursor there.

Click and drag.

Note: the lettering usually defaults to size 10 so you might have to increase the size on the Formatting toolbar.

 

Changing background color of your WordArt/Text Box:

In the formatting toolbar select the paint bucket icon (Note: you might have to choose the textbox first).

Choose the color you desire.

Note:  If the color appears in front of WordArt or Textboxes you have created, do the following:

                Go to “Arrange.”

                Go to “Order.”

                Go to “Send to Back.”

 

Changing the color of font on WordArt/Text Box:

Click on the box you are working.

Click on the underlined “A” in the toolbar above.

Select the color you want your font to be.

Clicking on the down arrow will give you a choice of more colors.

Select your color of choice.

 

Making a border around your WordArt/Text Box:

In the formatting toolbar select the three-line icon.

Choose the type of line you want.

Note: You can later choose to change the color of the line by selecting the paintbrush icon.

 

Adding pages to your Publisher document:

Go to “Insert.”

Scroll down to “Pages.”

Select the number of pages you want to add.

Click “OK.”

Note:  You can choose where you want to add pages by clicking on the specific page icon at the bottom of your screen and then following the four steps above.

 

The LRC has created an 8 page publisher document.  To find it:

Click on the “My Computer” icon.

Go to “Programs.”

Go to “8pagebooklet.pub.”

Making a tri-fold template:

Go to “My Computer.”

Go to “Programs.”

Scroll almost all the way to the bottom of the screen.

You will find an icon (name) that says “trifoldt2plate.pub.”

Click on it to open it.

Note:  Do not open “trifoldtplate.”

 

How do I create the brochure?:

You will have a screen that is divided into three sections; they will be defined as title, spine, and inset.  This is your page 1. 

Title page is just that, a title page.

Spine is the area where you will list your Works Cited.

Inset is the attention getting page.

 

 

 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


At the lower right portion of your screen you will see what looks like two little icons with the numbers “1” and “2” on them.  Whatever page that’s displayed on the screen will show the page with a white number (either 1 or 2) and a black background.  So, if you want to work on “Page 2,” simply click on that icon. 

Page 2 is the “guts” or “information” section of your brochure and looks like this:
