Our students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, will be involved in the statewide reading promotions called the Monarch Award and the Rebecca Caudill Award. We will be encouraging each student to read as many of the titles on their list as possible and then they will vote for their favorite in February. Their votes will be tallied with those of students statewide to determine state winners. To learn more about the books on each list, go to these websites: Monarch Award (K-3) Rebecca Caudill Award (and click on 2007 Master List) |

Richmond LRC has a new Director! He is Peter Vander Bleek, a 9-year veteran of Richmond School. Additional help is provided by three part time aides, Mary Ruotsi, Mary Ann Griswold and Madonna Strom. Our program also benefits from the help of about twenty five volunteers, many who commit to a weekly morning or afternoon of time.
Students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade come to the LRC with their class at least once a week for a 45 minute time period. During that time, they may work as a whole group or in small groups or both. The LRC curriculum, which includes literature studies, information skills and technology skills, is designed to integrate with the classroom curriculum. Additional time during the week is available for flexible scheduling. Students may return and check out books at any time during the day.

The LRC has a Spectrum Automated Circulation/Catalog system. There are thirty-five PCs available for student and staff use. Wireless computing is available with sixty laptops that are used in the LRC as well as classrooms. Digital cameras and projectors, as well as an interactive whiteboard, provide multimedia teaching and learning opportunities.
How Many? Kindergarteners check out one book at a time, while all other students may have two books checked out at one time. Additional books are allowed if the student is working on a research project.
How Long? Students have at least two weeks before they must return or renew their books.
How Much? The replacement cost of a lost or damaged hardback book is $18.00.
