Dear Fox Ridge families,

It’s hard to believe that fall is really here. After so many days of beautiful, warm weather, I now notice that the mornings are a little darker when I come to work, and the evenings fall a little sooner. As we take advantage of these beautiful days in October, thoughts also turn to Halloween. Fox Ridge will celebrate this festive time with a costume parade. I encourage everyone to maintain a respectful environment during our celebrations, and to be sure that costumes do not depict frightening, bloody or gory themes that may offend or frighten younger students. Students should not wear anything covering theirface or that restricts their vision. In addition, no weapons or potential weapons, such as bats or clubs, are allowed. Our parade will begin at 1:30. Weather permitting, we will parade around the back blacktop. Time will be given before the parade for students in first through fifth grades to change into their costumes. Children should be able to change into these costumes independently. Kindergarten students may come to school wearing their costumes.

It was a pleasure to meet many of you at our Curriculum Nights. We had a great turn-out! Everyone will have another opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher at the fall conferences coming up on November 19th and 20th. These conferences are a good opportunity to ask questions about curriculum and to discuss areas of strengths and weaknesses. Keeping communication open between home and school significantly increases a student’s success in school. The personal connection teachers make with their students can inspire children to ‘go the distance’ in achieving their goals. This personal connection, along with high expectations can also help students develop a sense of responsibility for their lives and their learning. As always, the staff at Fox Ridge will continue to look through the lens of what is best for a child and how we can make a positive difference.

This summer our School Improvement Team evaluated school data, evaluated our progress, and identified the goal to increase achievement in the area of reading comprehension. Our strategy to accomplish this goal is to target instruction on inferential and explicit questions. During our October School Improvement Day, teachers spent the day focused on instruction and curriculum by analyzing their students’ data. The question we asked ourselves was, “How can we adjust teaching and learning practices to improve student performance?” Using this data, plans are developed for future lessons and specific plans for student interventions. Teachers and staff at Fox Ridge are dedicated to working together to improve student achievement.

Our PTO has met twice and completed our Wrapping Paper fundraiser. Students were excited by the display in the lobby! Sincere appreciation to those who organized, those who participated, and those who purchased!

Our staff and students would also like to thank those responsible for the magic in the lobby. We have all enjoyed the ‘spooktacular’ decorations!

Sincerely,

Anne Van Zandt
