Veteran’s Day, First Grade Literacy Night, parent-teacher conferences,
report cards, Thanksgiving and Winter Break fill our November and December
calendars. During this busy time, it is so important to acknowledge our
gratitude for all the positives in our lives. Fox Ridge was the appreciative recipient of the “Fox and the Mouse” drawing by Sherry Tolman. On November 5th, we acknowledged this donation by the Rotary Club by hanging the picture in our main hall while reading thank you letters written by Student Council members. Members of the Rotary Club are also invited to join the Fox Ridge community in the spring when artist Sherry Tolman visits Fox Ridge. I’ll write more about this in a later newsletter. |

This also corresponded beautifully with a new initiative at Fox Ridge
– On the Same Page. Everyone at Fox Ridge from teachers to custodians
to the office staff is enjoying the wonderful excitement of reading
the same books! Our primary classes are reading Toys Go Out by Emily
Jenkins, and our intermediate classes are reading an adapted version
of Marley by John Grogan. Our goal is that along with developing a sense
of a reading community at Fox Ridge, students will be able to discuss,
predict, and clarify inside and outside of school. Please ask your child
about the book they are listening to in class. Many of you may have heard that developing Professional Learning Communities
is a St. Charles School Board goal. Implementation of this concept is
a district goal over the next few years. Professional Learning Communities,
or PLC’s, are schools that have embraced the principles of a learning
organization through the development of a shared vision, mission, values,
and goals. PLC’s are schools in which there are a variety of teams
focused on improving student learning through ongoing collection and
analysis of data. At Fox Ridge, we began this process two years ago
with an in-depth study of what collaboration really means. Through that
knowledge, we continue to dedicate our meetings on a commitment to the
learning of each student. As we continue this important work, I will
keep you updated on our journey! As we transition into the colder weather, please remember that temperatures
can sometimes drop significantly during the day. Children should come
to school dressed for cold weather with hats, gloves, and coats. Boots
and snow pants are also required to play in that fun white stuff! Your
help with this would be greatly appreciated! Everyone at Fox Ridge would like to extend our thanks to all the volunteers
that have worked so hard this month to make our school such a special
place. Also, I’d like to send a word of thanks to all our students,
their parents, and our staff who donated to the Kick-A-Thon. These donations
will go a long way to continuing the fight against cancer. Sincerely, Anne VanZandt ********************************************************** |
