THE
LRC PROGRAM
Individuals
and small groups are encouraged to make use of the LRC to work independently
or to check out materials.
Early
Childhood: Early Childhood classes are scheduled for book checkout
each week.
Kindergarten: The Kindergarten classes are not scheduled
on a weekly basis, but students come to the LRC according to the classroom
schedule to return and check out books daily. In the fall, students are
scheduled to use the computers in the Tech Den. At this time they use
a paint/draw program and create a fall/pumpkin scene. This activity coincides
with their fall study and field trip to a Pumpkin Farm. In the spring,
our kindergarten has a very special unit on Ocean Life. At this time small
groups are scheduled to do research using the electronic encyclopedias
and internet with the LRC Director and then using a paint/draw program,
students create a picture of their area of study. Students have researched
whales, sharks, shells, sea turtles, etc.
Grades 1 - 5: Classes are not scheduled weekly. Teachers
can schedule whole or small group or entire class for book checkout.
Flexible Schedule: Teachers, along with the LRC Director
schedule classes to do research, use the internet, type reports, create
HyperStudio projects, etc. These projects are curruculum related.
Tech
Den: The Tech Den area consists of 13 computers. Students in
grade 3-5 are also scheduled to use a program called "Type
to Learn" to practice typing skills.
