Moving from Initial to Standard-Level Certification
|
|
An Initial Teaching Certificate is issued to an Educator who has less than four years of teaching experience. To move from Initial to Standard Certification, the Educator must teach for four years on a valid certificate and complete one of the professional development options listed below:
After four years of teaching, an Educator's Initial Certificate is no longer valid. If the Educator has completed one of the previously mentioned professional development options, then he or she must apply for a Standard Certificate. If the Educator has not completed one of the options, then he or she must apply for a one-year reinstatement and complete the professional development requirement during that year. The request for reinstatement must be made through the Kane County Regional Office of Education using ISBE Form 73-93 -- Application for One-Year Reinstatement. If the Educator does not complete one of the professional development options during the reinstatement year, then he or she cannot apply for another certificate of the same type. The Educator, however, can apply for a certificate of another type.
If an Educator's certificate registration expires before he or she has completed four years of teaching, the Educator must reregister the Initial Certificate through the Kane County Regional Office of Education.
Standard Certificate Application Checklist
Educators who have four years of teaching experience and have completed one of the professional development options need the following to apply for a Standard Certificate:
- ISBE Form 73-97 -- Assurance Statement for Initial to Standard-Level Teaching Certification
- ISBE Form 73-03C -- Application for Teaching Certificate
